Sharing Communities
Children in UK classroom

Sharing Communities is an interactive experience, for  children in the UK classroom, lead by female tutors from our local Indian or Bangladeshi communities.

Children are taken into, what is often a very new world of tasting chappatis, reading and writing in Hindi or Bangle, wearing the salwar kameez and dancing to the sound of the tabla.

Our ‘Role Model Tutors’ are taught skills to enable them to work effectively in the classroom, then they become part of the Sharing Communities service, which has now become very popular with Gloucestershire schools.

Share to Learn

The Share to Learn Programme (STLP) provides a framework on which UK schools can build a direct link to a counterpart school in Kenya and India.

At each end of the link there are advisors ready to assist schools in developing practices and procedures to support effective learning. Once through the introductory stages, school partners will be guided to focus on critical, sustainable development themes that affect the daily lives of school-communities involved.

Share to Learn began in April  06 with UK-Kenya links and will progress to India links in August.

Gardens for Life

Gardens for Life (GfL) is a three-year initiative working with 75 schools in Kenya, India and UK, to establish gardens and grow food crops.

From the garden, schools link the local experiences gained by their children to global issues of food and sustainable development.  Implementation of GfL in Gloucestershire and Bristol is carried out by GDT. The overall programme is coordinated by Cornwall-based Eden Project.

The Gardens for Life pilot will finish in December 06 and after evaluation, will be made available to a wider school audience.
